Current Position: Shireen Atabaki, MD, MPH, is a pediatric emergency physician. She is Professor of Pediatrics at George Washington University and a Medical Director of Informatics and Associate Medical Director of Telemedicine at Children's National Hospital in Washington, DC.

Biography: Dr. Atabaki's area of expertise is in concussion and medical informatics and has brought national and international recognition to pediatric concussion. She received the National Heroes Award for Research, awarded by the Maternal Child Health Bureau and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for her leadership in research to reduce unnecessary CT scans and radiation in children with traumatic brain injury. Dr. Atabaki leads research programs focused on improving access and quality of care for underserved children through telehealth and medical informatics.

Dr. Atabaki has a love for teaching and has mentored over seventy trainees who have gone on to productive careers in healthcare. She has received several mentorship awards and her emphasis in mentorship is helping mentees retain the altruism and compassion that originally brought them to health care.

Dr. Atabaki is a member of the National Council of the American Federation for Medical Research, American Academy of Pediatrics, Society for Pediatric Research, American Medical Informatics Association, American Telehealth Association and International Medical Informatics Association.
